Solid Rock at Ryan Gortney's fundraiser at Osceola Dragway

[Solid Rock]

Last Thursday evening, June 20, I got a call from Mark Horvath asking me if I would be interested in running on Sunday at Ryan Gortney's benefit. I said I would like to, but still didn't have my heads back from the machine shop.
Well, I got the heads on Friday afternoon and proceeded to get everything back together. As usual, things did not go as smoothly as I would have liked, but I did get everything together by 11:30 Saturday night. Still had a couple of things to do once we got to the track. I got a call from Mark at 8 AM telling me we were scheduled to be the opening pair at noon, 11 AM our time. Mr. Bear and I took off and got there at 9:40. Thanks to Pat Scheer and the Horvath crew we were ready on time but the show got put back a couple of hours. We checked the timing, put the wheelie bars on, filled the trans with fluid and packed the chute. Luckily we had some time to catch our breath and take a breather.
We were called up to be the opening cars after the National Anthem. Once we got started I was intent on making an eighth mile burnout, but the Evil Mach I had other ideas and started to dance sideways so I backed off of it a little earlier than I would have liked. We both got backed up and I did a couple of short dryhops and then we staged. I brought the R's up and was ready as can be but somehow Mark got a great holeshot on me and I chased him to the finish line. I did run a little quicker, but not enough to catch him. My 4.79 to his 4.81. I will need to have a serious talk about him beating upn the old man like that!!!
That was our quickest eighth mile time to date and I am well pleased with it, especially considering it was right after some considerable head work and a trans freshening.
Again, I have to thank Pat Scheer, Mark, Brad, Anthony, Nikki and Chuck Horvath along with Kevin and Dawn and Big Tom! Mr. Bear and I could not have done it without your help.
